The goal: Engage everyone in the most fun, exciting, and friendly way possible.
This story started with an unconventional challenge. Our client, the Playrix team, wanted maximum guest engagement. However, active formats always carry a risk: while the most energetic guests complete the challenges, half of the group politely lingers by the buffet zone. We designed the day to break this pattern in the most fun, exciting, and natural way possible.
We chose the picturesque Los Jardines de Thao estate near Valencia: a lush garden, a dedicated campfire spot, and plenty of open space without any crowded feeling. The participants were employees who had relocated to Spain from various countries and mostly knew each other only through work chats. Given the adult audience, typical student-style quest mechanics were out of the question from the start. Instead, we bet on an outdoor retreat format where families come together and stay until late evening, when the setting sun lights up the campfire and guests start roasting marshmallows.
Parents can't fully relax if they have to monitor their children every single minute. That’s why we didn't treat the kids' program as an afterthought; we designed it as an independent track with a dedicated team, animators, and its own storyline. Giving parents peace of mind led to a maximum engagement rate for adults in the main team-building activities (the core project objective) and flipped the usual event dynamics: children worked on their own challenges, while adults relaxed to guitar music at their own pace.
The day's program was built as a quest, moving seamlessly from a welcome ritual to a unifying finale. At the welcome zone, guests received personalized gifts. The main part of the day featured dynamic team building with engaging mechanics accessible to everyone. Meanwhile, for those who preferred a calmer pace, an activation camp with creative workshops and relaxation areas ran in parallel. The gastronomy — featuring an elegant buffet line and a BBQ station — added a special sense of warmth, while a cozy campfire with live music served as the natural conclusion to the day.
Mara Studio delivered a full-cycle project. But the full cycle of enjoyment was what truly mattered: a vibrant welcome, elegant decor, pressure-free engagement, seamless logistics, and voilà — colleagues from chat rooms turned into a warm, live community by the campfire, laughing, talking, and singing. Together.
